Waterfall Engagement Session near Stowe, Vermont

If you're an adventurous couple that loves the outdoors, you should definitely think about having your engagement session at a waterfall in Vermont!

Fall Waterfall Engagement in VT

Jamie and John spend most of their free time hiking, canoeing and exploring the outdoors. So they knew they wanted to incorporate some outdoor adventure into their engagement session. This beautiful waterfall is often buzzing in the summertime as crowds gather to cool off in the swimming hole at the base of the falls. But luckily, on a chilly mid-November day, we had it all to ourselves!

Tips for Waterfall Engagement Photos

Choosing to have your engagement photos near a rushing waterfall is so dreamy and romantic. But there are few things to think about to ensure you're getting the experience you want from it all.

  1. Consider your Footwear. Water + Rocks = Slippery! Be careful! Make sure you're wearing the proper footwear (ie: hiking boots or shoes with good traction) to get yourself close enough to the falls. If you are not comfortable walking or climbing on rocks, let your photographer know so that we can find a waterfall that is easier to explore.

For this session, Jamie wore hiking shoes to cross over the rocks and get to the desired spot before switching into her fun white boots. I kept her hiking shoes with me in my backpack to keep them out of the frame of the photos.
  2. Pick A Season and Know the Flow. Waterfalls often peak in the spring, when Vermont experiences some wet weather and all the mountain snow melts and feeds into the rivers and streams. At the end of the year after a hot summer, some of these bodies of water dry up. So make sure you do your research and choose your waterfall and season accordingly. (Your photographer should also be able to go on a scouting mission to make sure that it is actually flowing!)
  3. Pair it With a Hike or Another Fun Adventure! While some waterfalls can be found right next to the road, others may require a short (or even longer) hike to get to. Embrace the adventure of the combo-deal and fill your session with two fun activities!

Fill Your Engagement Session with Your Favorite Activities

After exploring the waterfall, there was more fun to be had! So we drove over to nearby Waterbury Reservoir (where they got engaged!) for an extra adventure. Jamie + John often paddle on this body of water in the summers. They bring the dogs and their camping gear and spend a few nights under the stars. It was the perfect spot for them to celebrate this special moment in time!
